Having lived in Nairobi for years, we experienced first-hand the daily struggle of living in squeezed high-rise apartments—where space is a luxury and multifunctionality is a necessity. In a typical two-bedroom house, fitting both a sofa and a dining table feels almost impossible. Many people end up eating and working on their sofas, and hosting guests becomes a nightmare.
We realized that for most Nairobians, especially in affordable urban apartments, space needs to be reinvented—not just decorated.
That’s where Makespace was born.
We set out to design smart, space-saving furniture that transforms how people live: foldable beds, beds with storage, sofas that turn into guest beds, folding dining sets, and coffee tables that double up as workspaces.
